HIDTA / Asset Forfeiture

The High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) and Asset Forfeiture Unit focuses on drug-related crimes and seizes assets used in committing crimes such as: 

-- Armed robbery
-- Driving while intoxicated
-- Commercial gambling
-- Violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act 
-- Mortgage fraud
-- Violations of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act 

Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Heather Waters files civil claims based on criminal violations against individuals who use assets such as vehicles, homes or money to fund their criminal activities. Georgia law allows the HIDTA/Asset Forfeiture Unit to remove financial incentives for committing crimes.
